NOTE from Derek Sivers:
This website was one of the first I designed for someone else, and one of the first on my little webhosting company.
I just found out about Sean's death an hour ago. Not knowing what else to do, I'd like to leave this website here, for free, as a tribute to him - and for those old friends that might be searching for him in the future.
Though I have put Mike Mosher's tribute on the front page, I have left everything else on the website the way Sean requested it in 1998.

The Band That Never Was

Interesting collection of eclectic - things. I don't happen to know of Sean Good, so I'm not sure if vol. 1 refers to hits of a great artist, all collected up; or if it's just a good marketing gimmick. Keeps ya guessing, eh?

Well, about the closest I can come to this artist is Bowie. Wonderfully potent tracks like 'Ian' and 'Freighter' remind me so much of Bowie's Low and Heroes albums, I'm frightened. Though there's much more texture, I'd say, in Sean's instrumentals, probably since he doesn't have the minimalist Eno to contend with. Keyboards over the odd piano noise make a construction that's either progressive or ambient. I suppose it depends on who listens.

And then, like Heroes, after the anti-vocal track, in comes a heavy beat and singing that isn't really like anything else out there. I'm talking about the 4 minute 'Trudy' which might sound something like Elvis trying to make a 90s comeback. I like the floating keyboard sounds that sprinkle the place over like chopped nuts. Heavy. Dark, but not without a moon.

If you're the sort who thinks Bowie can't sing; that Lennon's solo albums are garbage; that Elvis Costello indulges himself too often; chances are you aren't going to spin this one often. If you're big enough to like your music to sound different from anything the hell else, you'll be playing this, dude(ss). This one's for anyone 'Young and Angry'.

Sean Good - Vol. 1, the band that never was

Sean Good should be a welcomed new addition to your plate of solid alternative tunes. Good's music is a mix of Bowie (Diamond Dogs-era), John Lennon (Working Class Hero-era), and modern angst bands with the difference being Sean's capable blend of possibly ambient influences.

There's also a great flow to the album, with instrumentals, acoustic and full productions which gives the album a depth you'll find urging you back for one more listen. Recommended.
